Rent solo- or tandem kayaks by the beach at Charlottenlund Fort, at Gentofte, north of Copenhagen. Enjoy a day out on Øresund.
Kayaking with friends and family is a fun activity and a great alternative to renting a bike. This is a great location for beginners as you can stay close to the coast, that has very fine conditions along the shores for first timers, with calm waters:
- North towards Skovshoved and the beautiful Bellevue Beach
- South towards the cozy beaches of Hellerup and Svanemøllen.
The coast is practically just one long beach, either way.
More experienced kayakers can easily go out on longer trips on Øresund. On calm days you could:
- Sail out and see Middelgrundsfortet (5,5 km straight)
- Sail out to visit Flakfortet (10 km straight)
- If you are up for the challenge:
Cross the Øresund and land in Barsebäck, Sweden (20 km straight)
IT IS IMPORTANT TO LOOK OUT FOR FERRIES AND BOATS, ØRESUND IS A TRAFFICKED STRAIT
Local tips for kayaking in Charlottenlund and the surrounding area:
- Before or after your trip, we recommend a delicious Danish ice cream from our friends at Emils Ice Cream. They also serve grilled food, and both hot & cold beverages.
Located at Kavalergården 1 – a 2-minute walk from the KAYAKOMAT.
- If you do the trip to Flakfortet, you will be able to get a discount on lunch at the restaurant there. Show your KAYAKOMAT booking when ordering.
- The KAYAKOMAT is located practically on the beach, so bring a towel and enjoy a dip in the waters after your kayaking trip.
Practical information of the area:
- The KAYAKOMAT is not far from free parking lots. Both at the camping office (GPS set to Charlottenlund Fort) and also all along Strandvejen road, in both directions.
- Public toilets are right next to the station
- There is an open-air shower outlet right next to the KAYAKOMAT

On the day of your booking, you will receive a code via email and SMS. Arrive at your KAYAKOMAT and unlock your gear. Inside you’ll find everything you need: PFD, paddles and sprayskirts. If it’s your first time out on the water, make sure you double check our safety tips.
Time to paddle!
