Tips for paddling on Hvaler:

Sand Marina is centrally located on Hvaler and is well sheltered from the wind. Paddle around in Asmaløysundet outside the marina and discover the shipwreck Christiania. Easy.

A nice trip to Asmaløy:

In Asmaløysundet south of Knatten (the old house of author Johan Borgen), the speed limit for boats is 5 knots, so it should be easy to paddle over to Rød where the Bunnpris store is located.

Route to Tjeldholmen:

From Sand Marina, you can paddle north towards Tjeldholmen. The area is scenic and offers a great paddling experience. If you have energy left, take a trip around Møren, which lies just southeast of Tjeldholmen on the way back. But remember, there can be a bit more waves and wind east of Møren. Easy to experienced.

Further towards Vesterøy:

After exploring Tjeldholmen, you can continue paddling north along the inside of Tjeldholmen and further towards Vesterøy.

Here you can enjoy the beautiful coastlines and calm waters. Experienced but manageable in good weather.

Experience northern Asmaløy:

A bit further east from Møren is Lisundet between Store and Lille Ingerholmen and Løperholmen. A narrow and shallow strait that is very protected from wind and waves. When you come out of Lisundet, Listranda family camping is on the right. On the left is Kirkøy, Hvaler's largest island. Feel free to visit Bølinghavn behind Kjerringholmen.

Akerøya:

If you are really experienced and have checked the weather forecast carefully, a trip to Akerøya with its fort and diverse botany and birdlife can be experienced. But it requires good weather and experience. Remember that large parts of the island are protected. So follow the signage. This also applies to the rest of southern and western Hvaler, which is a nature reserve in its entirety. The fort is also an experience. Feel free to take Skjelsbusundet via Tjeldholmen on the way back to Sand. Here there is little wind and it is very nice. Experienced.

Around Spjærøy or round trip:

Skjelsbusundet on the west side of Spjærøy is something very special. It can either be reached by going out Asmaløysundet or up north past Tjeldholmen and then west and south again under the Spjærøy bridge. Experienced if Asmaløysundet is chosen. Manageable if the northern route is chosen.
