Paddlers with more experience can on a calm day head out towards the Årsta islets or further into Riddarfjärden. Experienced kayakers can explore the full length of the bay and follow Södermalm's scenic southern coastline. Kayaking is a great alternative to exploring Stockholm's waterways by bike or as a break on a walk through the area. Local tips for paddling at Årstaviken:
- Paddle out to the Årsta islets, a nature reserve in the heart of the city, ideal for a shorter trip. Please note that some of the islets have seasonal bird protection areas, and landing us restrictis between April 1 and July 31
- A half-day paddle along Södermalm's southern shore offers beautiful views of the bridges and green waterfront areas.
- Experienced paddlers can take a full-day trip towards Riddarfjärden and loop around Långholmen for a classic Stockholm experience.
Practical information at KAYAKOMAT Årstaviken:
- The nearest station is Södra station (commuter train), approx. 13 minutes' walk.
- The station is located right at the water next to a jetty for easy launch.
- Watch out for boat traffic, particularly near the canals and Riddarfjärden.
- If you paddle towards Hammarby Sjöstad, you will eventually reach a lock. It is possible to pass through the lock with a kayak, but it is not something we recommend for beginners.
