If you want to explore more, you can paddle all the way downstream to Gothenburg city, into Vallgraven, and enjoy “sightseeing by kayak” through the city center. Why not stop for lunch along the canal or paddle out to the harbor entrance and check out the large ships? Alternatively, you can explore the beautiful and exotic stretch of the Säveån river heading northeast towards Partille and Jonsered.
Paddling a kayak or SUP is a great way to experience our beautiful nature — from the water, you’ll see places that are hard to reach by bike or on foot. Renting a kayak or SUP in Gamlestaden is easy, affordable, and flexible thanks to the unmanned KAYAKOMAT concept.

Local tips for paddling at Gamlestaden
- Start along the shoreline and head downstream towards Gothenburg city.
- Check out the landmarks along the harbor entrance such as the Opera House, Älvsborg Bridge, Lindholmen, the East Indiaman Götheborg, and the Eriksberg Crane.
- Take a trip upstream along the Säveån river; the current isn’t strong, and you can paddle quite far under bridges and through lush, cozy sections toward Partille and Jonsered.
- Alternatively, paddle north along the harbor entrance toward Kungälv and all the way up to Lake Vänern!

- Paid parking about 30 meters away.
- Note: Ongoing construction work at the Säveån river. Walk around the barriers with your kayak for launching.
- You’re welcome to bring gear and store it in one of the hatches in the kayak.

On the day of your booking, you will receive a code via email and SMS. Arrive at your KAYAKOMAT and unlock your gear. Inside you’ll find everything you need: PFD, paddles and sprayskirts. If it’s your first time out on the water, make sure you double check our safety tips.
Time to paddle!
Now you’re ready to go! Enjoy your time out on the water, and be sure to tag us @kayakomat on social media. When your rental time is finished, return your equipment, check that everything is clean and lock it back up.
